Science and Art in the Park

Purpose

Our Mobile Science Lab (MSL) is rolling in to parks in our service counties to offer STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art & Math) to our students in the form of PLTW (Project Lead the Way) and art. In this launch year we are offering STEAM/PLTW classes to students in TK-6th grades and art for students TK-12th grades. We will be adding more grade levels of PLTW in the coming years.

Enrollment & Catalog

All PLTW classes are taught by credentialed and PLTW trained Education Specialists (ESs). Art classes are taught either by an ES or an approved vendor.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is PLTW?

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a non profit organization that provides the nation's leading STEM programs to schools across the country. Teachers who participate in this training learn to teach K-12 STEM in creative and engaging ways with the PLTW curriculum.

Why aren’t there any STEAM classes for Jr High & High School?

This our inaugural year with the Science & Art in the Park program. We have started with PLTW Launch program TK-6th grade. We plan to add middle school & high school programs in the future. Middle school & high school PLTW courses require extensive teacher training and prep time.

Why can’t I drop my student off? Why do I have to stay?

Parents are required to stay at the Science and Art in the Park during their student’s classes. The parks are a public location and the teacher can not be responsible for students going to the public restrooms. We have discussed these concerns at length with our administration and for liability and insurance reasons, at this time, we are required to have the parents be on site. We hoped that by offering other classes, and having a park location, that other children would have learning activities while the Project Lead the Way class was in session.
